HALF-DAY AUTO TOURS
We offer two different half day tours to the heart of the Monument. Our private land sits along side the Missouri River, approximately in the middle of the 100 mile long Monument. The half day tour allows those who have a limited time in Central Montana and want to cut to the chase and see what Lewis and Clark were describing as breath-taking sites.
TOUR A: Monument Tour - ($120 Min. Rate) $40/ea.
- From our private land, take in the expansive & untouched beauty of the Missouri River & National Monument from our scenic overlook. View breath-taking canyons & white rocks unseen from the River. Landmarks to be seen include: Hole-in-the-Wall, Citadel Rock, Eagle Rock, Eagle Buttes, La Barge Rock, Eagle Creek & a recent natural rock slide. A stop by the quaint one-room Eagle Butte Schoolhouse may take you back in time.
TOUR B: Monument, Decision Point & Virgelle Tour - ($165 Min. Rate) $55/ea.
- Our most popular auto tour. The Monument Tour plus a trip across the Missouri River on the Virgelle Ferry. Virgelle is an (almost) ghost town that is home to the quaint Virgelle Mercantile & Canoe Company, which is also a Bed & Breakfast on the Missouri River. Browse the many antiques from days past. We will also stop at historical Decision Point, over-looking the Missouri & Marias Rivers where 200 years ago Lewis & Clark spent days determining which was truly the Missouri River.
What To Expect:
- The day would start out by meeting in Fort Benton at your leisure, preferably around 8:00 AM or 1:00 PM. Other times can be made available if our schedule allows...just ask.
- Take a scenic, 45 minute vehicle drive out to Eagle Buttes Farm and Ranch.
- Drive the vehicle path to a spot that is a short walk to our overlook from which you can see the Hole-in-the-Wall, Citadel Rock, miles of the Missouri River, white cliffs and much more.
- Snacks will be provided but lunch will not.
These tours are great for those with limited abilities or time!
HALF-DAY HIKE
We offer two half-day hikes straight to two of the popular attractions in the Monument and you can be back to Fort Benton in 4-5 hours. Our two main hikes will be to the Hole-in-the-Wall or Citadel Rock.
HALF DAY HIKE RATES
- 1-2 Person Trip - (Min. Rate) $140
- Per Additional Person $40
- Backpack Rental $10
What To Expect: 
- The day would start out by meeting in Fort Benton at your leisure, preferably around 8:00 AM.
- Take a scenic, 45 minute drive (in our vehicle) out to Eagle Buttes Farm and Ranch.
- Hike approximately 3 miles depending on the group and circumstances (weather). The terrain is moderate to difficult at times. The soil can be very sandy and slippery.
- Travel back to Fort Benton around noon.
What's Required: YOU Supply
- You would be expected to bring all your personal gear necessary for a half day hike.
- Hiking Shoes (NO sneakers).
- Long pants are highly recommended to avoid / minimize cuts and abrasions.
What's Required: WE Supply
- Cold water bottles and snacks.
- We will provide a backpack if needed for a small fee.
- Rattle Snakes are very present in this area when the surface temperature is above 50 degrees. Rattle Snakes do not usually strike first without notice. They are more afraid of you than you of them and usually only strike if provoked or startled. It is highly recommended that you wear high - top full leather boots or some other means of leg protection.
- Hiking will be on pre-determined trails but the soil is still loose and may at times be moderately difficult. If it rains or becomes wet, the soil turns to a very sticky gumbo. (You will remember this mud for years, if you are so fortunate!)
